THE GOD WARRIOR.  An “Hour Drawing,” available to purchase here, and the 200+ set of them so far here. Subject suggestion for this one was “Totoro/anything Studio Ghibli”. I went with the latter, although possibly the direct opposite from “Totoro.”
I’ll be reopening sales on these drawings, at a slightly increased price, on Monday, May 6. So if you’ve been waiting, get ready—in order to control demand (and workload), I’ll only be taking 10 orders.
Also this week I launched this new print, along with a week long sale.

THANK GOD IT’S WONKA!  An “Hour Drawing,” available to purchase here, and the 200+ set of them so far here. Subject suggestion for this one was “Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder version).”
I’ll tell you a secret, Willy Wonka has always given me the creeps. I’ve never watched it again since the first time. Only The Wizard of Oz gives me THE SHIVERS more.

THE GREATEST TURTLE. An “Hour Drawing,” available to purchase here, and the 200+ set of them so far here. Subject suggestion for this one was “ninja turtle”. Last week, in the desert with a bunch of bros playing a game around a table, the question “who is the best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle?” was asked, and everyone at the table nodded sagely at how easy it was, and then half the table was aghast that everyone didn’t write “Raphael”, and the other half was aghast that it wasn’t “Donatello.” Although to be honest, the Donatello camp was slightly less aghast, of course. We Donatello lovers are a gentler breed.
I should say I based this drawing largely on a picture of a TMNT toy I found online, which represented for me a pleasant middle ground between the original (awesome) character designs and the blobbier, simpler cartoon designs.

RICHIE RICH. Done with Microns, Copic markers, and a little colored pencil. And some OCD.
Recently I was complaining to someone about how the things I post on Tumblr that are essentially fanart are much much MUCH more popular than anything else I do. Not that that’s a real problem, but you know, sometimes you’re just looking for things to be grumpy about.
Then this morning I was looking at this Richie Rich cover, which I originally did for the Covered blog, and I realized it’s probably my own favorite thing of anything I’ve ever drawn. I can’t win!
Back when I did this originally, some time in 2010, I also posted a bunch of process photos on my Flickr, if you’re interested.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY.
A commission I did for a friend. I stuck with the strip version of characters, which I prefer (and which he asked for). Which means no Thing—the original Thing was just a kind of regular-old “thing”, one of numerous horror-monster pets the family had or would allude to. The closest I could find in the strip was this one, which you can see I lifted almost wholesale for this. Hey I’m not proud.
Also, if one day someone see this from Chronicle Books or a similar fancy-dan publisher, PLEASE reprint the old Charles Addams softcovers, or do a high-end treatment of his work. There is literally NOTHING in print that isn’t either completely terrible or covered with movie images and so forth from back when the movies came out. BEGGING HERE.

Hey that’s me! I did this for the #sworcery AV jam. If you’ve never played it, Superbrothers Sword & Sworcery EP is one of my favorite games of all time, the kind of game that changes the way you think about games and their place in your world. It’s not the most fun game you’ll ever play, it’s not the most challenging game you’ll ever play; it’s not even the most beautiful game you’ll ever play. But it is an emotionally resonant experience, the kind of thing that you’ll return to over and over in your mind; a place of solace and mystery and death. It’s a world between worlds, like all the best things are.
Available here via iTunes for iPhone/iPad, here via Steam for PC. The Steam version also includes Jim Guthrie’s amazing soundtrack, which you can buy and/or stream here.

MAJOR GRUBERT. One of the one-hour drawings I’ve been doing, available for purchasing by you right here. All the ones thus far are here. I drew this for Ryan Sand’s suggestion that a bunch of people do the characters of this set of Moebius trading cards—I picked the good Major. That’s how I roll (major).
