INDIE ISLAND AHOY! This is one of two t-shirts that will be available exclusively at HeroesCon in two weeks (!). The other one is by the inestimable Jim Rugg. They’ll be printed on-site on your choice of a limited number of colors, although for my money I think the lighter the better on mine, and the darker the better on Jim’s. If you’ve never been to HeroesCon before, it’s pretty great—an old school mainstream comics show, which HAS: lots of comics dealers, lots of cheapo old comics, lots of famous drawers, and a famously robust original art crowd—it’s often described as a “sketchbook show” because there are so many artists as guests and so many people buying sketches. It also HAS “Indie Island”, a special area devoted to independent comics right at the center of the show. If you know me much, you might know that I worked for HeroesCon for most of my adult life before I foolishly quit to pursue a lucrative career in illustration. But before I did, I started Indie Island back in 2005, so it was very flattering to be asked to do a t-shirt design for them this year.
What HeroesCon LACKS is: a bunch of TV celebrities selling autographs; loud video game booths; movie crap; etc. HeroesCon is pretty great, and best of all it’s right here in the city I live in, so close I can take the city bus if I so choose. More as the show approaches, but GET EXCITED for now about this sweet t-shirt!

THE BIG NOSE OF SPRING. One of the twenty-five dollar sketches I do; you can buy one here, and see all the ones to date here. Subject suggestion for this one was “elephant”.

JIM GUTHRIE’s new album Takes Time premieres today, and it’s fantastic. You can order it (and/or stream it free) on Bandcamp (which presumably nets him more moola) and iTunes. I was able to get an advance copy and have worn electronic grooves in the mp3’s for the last few months: it’s really something. I discovered Jim’s music through the incredible Sworcery soundtrack, and then immediately started working back through his catalog. Now More Than Ever is an especial favorite, and his last solo studio album, nearly ten years old. I can’t recommend Jim as a person or as an artist highly enough—his music has become a really really important part of my life, and I’m the better for it.
The above comic is from a future series of diary comics, which I thought I’d have done by now, but no. But I couldn’t help sticking it out there to celebrate Jim’s new album, and hopefully drum up some new fans for him. Pass it along!

WHAT THE RAVEN QUOTH. An “Hour Drawing,” available to purchase here, and the 200+ set of them so far here. Subject suggestion for this one was “Edgar Allan Poe/The Raven.”
I’ve opened these up again for sale, though I’m still working on the last few from the last time. If you don’t mind waiting between 3 and 5 weeks to get yours, there are 10 available now, but probably not for very long.

DR. WHAT. An “Hour Drawing,” available to purchase here, and the 200+ set of them so far here. Subject suggestion for this one was “Dr Who.”
I’ll be reopening sales on these drawings, at a slightly increased price, on Monday, May 6. So if you’ve been waiting, get ready—in order to control demand (and workload), I’ll only be taking 10 orders.
Also this week I launched this new print, along with a week long sale.
