This is the first thing I’ll be hunting down at TCAF. John Martz is one of my favorite cartoonists, biggest influences, and (somehow) a good friend, and I honestly can’t wait to read this book, which looks gorgeous.
What to say about this book? I did not expect to like it nearly as much as I did. It seemed esoteric…
Reblogging because I wrote this, and also because it feels like a million years since I’ve posted anything. But: sooon, my precious, soooooooooooooooooooo*coughs*
Every year I publish my list of favourites, and every year I always realize I’ve forgotten a few due to absent-mindedness or, more likely, my cluttered office. So here are a few more, which I’ll append to the original list:
There’s something quite special about the…
Very nice to see myself included in John Martz’s Favourites list. That young man certainly has an eye for quality!
I recently illustrated the cover of Patricia Lockwood’s new poetry collection, Balloon Pop Outlaw Black.
Patricia’s best known for her “sext tweets,” which on their own deserve a genius grant and/or Nobel prize, but she’s also an extraordinary long-form poet.
This book is wild and…
The idea that Lisa Hanawalt did the cover to Tricia Lockwood’s new book is too perfect. I love them both, although I’ve never met Tricia before. But I have marveled at her amazing Twitter, which is hilarious and wild and befuddling and amazing and perfect. I preordered this book on Amazon before I even knew Lisa did the cover, but I was also in knee-jerk I’LL BUY IT mode just at the idea of a Patricia Lockwood book I could own and read whenever I wanted instead of waiting around for her to login to Twitter like a schmuck.
You can now preorder the next issue of Kuš!, edited by Anne Koyama, with a cover by Michael DeForge, and featuring a pretty swell lineup of cartoonists, including yours truly.
And YOURS truly as well! (me, I mean me) I have a really weird 4-page story in there, it’s all about FUTURE MEDICINE.
SMALL DRAWINGS. You know all those fourths and one-hour drawings I’m always posting here? WELL, I made a little book of some of my favorites, you can buy it right here. If you already pre-ordered my new Diary Comics #4 (as of press time), then I’m going to send you one free for being an early adopter; otherwise, besides buying it here, you can buy SMALL DRAWINGS straight from my face at this weekend’s SPX, where I’ll be set up with Koyama Press, selling all my prints and books and originals and stuff. I’ll give you sex advice too (if you want it). Here’s some free advice, just to show I know what I’m talking about: slow down.
DIARY COMICS #4 is now available for preorder, details right here. I’ll start shipping them once I get back from SPX, where the book is debuting at the Koyama Press table, along with Michael Deforge’s Lose #4, Julia Wertz’s The Infinite Wait, the new Team Society League book, and a ton more.
Also, while I don’t often post about my diary comics on Tumblr, I just finished the long storyline Boxes on my site (starting here), which takes up most of the second half of my new book. It’s 38 pages and a little bit of a giant rambling bummer, but I’m very proud of it and I hope you like it.
DIARY COMICS #4 will be debuting next month at SPX. Published by Koyama Press, it’ll be 4.25” x 5”, color covers with French flaps, wrapped around black and white ink/wash interiors, 88 pages give or take. I’m very proud of this one, it’s the best of the bunch so far — many thanks to Annie Koyama for sticking with me this long ♥♥♥ The new book will include the last year or so’s worth of strips, including the longer story “Boxes,” which is still in progress and begins here if you’re curious.
While you cool your heels waiting for the book to be out, there’s plenty of other stuff, including Diary Comics #3, available in my shop.
READING IS FUNDAMENTAL.
