DIARY COMICS! Just announced over at The Comics Reporter is the collection of my series of “Diary Comics” strips. It’s a cute little book at 5” x 6.5”, 236 pages long, edited down from the 400+ original strips and with around 30 brand new pages added. I worked hard on this to turn it from a ramshackle collection of sandwiches and moments into something with a little more value, more narrative, and more gutpunch. I’m much more proud of it than I expected to be, and can’t wait for it to debut at TCAF next year as part of Koyama Press's summer line. Excelsior!
THE NEW DARK ARTS TEACHER.
A “Persons of Interest” drawing. You can get your own here. Short version is I’ll draw any famous/widely recognizable figure, fictional or historical or just popular, just once. So for instance, I won’t draw Severus Snape again. Especially not since I NAILED this one.
The Seconds team @radiomaru, @nathanfairbairn, @dharbin and me! Seconds is out in stores now! #secondgn #bryanleeomalley
There we are, gorgeous as the day is long! Seconds is a really amazing book that I was lucky enough to hand letter. It’s been a real pleasure to see people reacting to it, mainly like this: “!!!!!” If you’re near a bookstore or comics shop go get that thing stat STAT
LITTLE DREAMS, BIG BOOKCASE.
I’ve made this (out of print) print available as an archival giclee through Inprnt. Excellent for that person you know who likes to tuck into a corner for their creativities.
Hello! Yesterday I was interviewed on The Comics Reporter, and many topics were covered, including this cover, the cover to my upcoming dinosaur leporello, coming this fall from Nobrow Press. Keep your eyes peeled for ordering info, but in the meantime, excite yourself!
DINOSAURS—I’m nearly done with this very long project I’ve been working on since last year. By “long” I mean “LONG”—it’s a folding leporello book (like an accordion) for Nobrow’s Flying Eye imprint, similar to this one right here. I’ve been bummed about how long it’s taken me to do this, SO long, MUCH longer than I ever would have thought, and way past deadline. But then last night I realized that the two files I’ve been working on (front and back of the folding page) equal a single image that’s around 13 inches tall and nearly 14 feet long, so I don’t feel so bad anymore. This is a bout 13” by 24” I’m showing here, to give you an idea.
ANYway. I’ll let you know when this thing is available for you to order, but I wanted to share what I’ve been working on for all of 2014 so far. Now that I’m nearly done I can’t wait to get back to making comics, fixing my website, and starting some long-term projects that I’ve been putting off forever. It’s going to be a very productive second half of 2014.
This is the first thing I’ll be hunting down at TCAF. John Martz is one of my favorite cartoonists, biggest influences, and (somehow) a good friend, and I honestly can’t wait to read this book, which looks gorgeous.
What to say about this book? I did not expect to like it nearly as much as I did. It seemed esoteric…
Reblogging because I wrote this, and also because it feels like a million years since I’ve posted anything. But: sooon, my precious, soooooooooooooooooooo*coughs*
Every year I publish my list of favourites, and every year I always realize I’ve forgotten a few due to absent-mindedness or, more likely, my cluttered office. So here are a few more, which I’ll append to the original list:
There’s something quite special about the…
Very nice to see myself included in John Martz’s Favourites list. That young man certainly has an eye for quality!
I recently illustrated the cover of Patricia Lockwood’s new poetry collection, Balloon Pop Outlaw Black.
Patricia’s best known for her “sext tweets,” which on their own deserve a genius grant and/or Nobel prize, but she’s also an extraordinary long-form poet.
This book is wild and…
The idea that Lisa Hanawalt did the cover to Tricia Lockwood’s new book is too perfect. I love them both, although I’ve never met Tricia before. But I have marveled at her amazing Twitter, which is hilarious and wild and befuddling and amazing and perfect. I preordered this book on Amazon before I even knew Lisa did the cover, but I was also in knee-jerk I’LL BUY IT mode just at the idea of a Patricia Lockwood book I could own and read whenever I wanted instead of waiting around for her to login to Twitter like a schmuck.
