SKETCHBOOK 07 - Pages 32-33
The dumpster behind where I used to work, and a bird from someone’s Tumblr, and a bunch of little faces that I was trying to remember from a wedding we’d gone to the night before.
Sketchbook measures 6” x 7.5” and was handmade by the great Joe Lambert.

A king and some people at figure drawing and then some people watching breakdancers afterwards. The main dj at breakdancing night has the coolest face which I’ve tried to draw 40 billion times and failed each time. He looks like a young version of Bill Duke from Predator (in a good way):

A little figure drawing—this model had really fantastic hair, like the queen of shampoo commercials fantastic, so I botched it both times of course. Also some leaf studies—I’ve been playing with the idea of drawing trees as abstractions of just one of their leaves. Like using fractals for cartooning, except a lot blobbier. Oh and some Seconds fanart in the top left, one of my favorite characters, although most of the characters are my favorite.

Some guys from the DMV, a guy from Humans of New York, and some studies for my pieces in the Telegraph Gallery portrait show (the Andrew Jackson is still available as of this writing). Mostly drawn with pen and ink and Staedtler Triplus color markers. Oh and a little pan watercolor on the window washer.

Left side: potted plant in the waiting room of the Castro Express Lube, where the car I was about to buy back in November was being inspected by a CRACK team of Express Lubers, drawn with a Staedtler Triplus. Right side: a bunch of drawings copied from Amid Amidi’s Cartoon Modern book, a great place to get some drawing inspiration (or just copy drawings out of if your imagination is drab and grey like mine), drawin in red mechanical pencil.

DORIS. Figure drawing from last week’s session. I didn’t hear the model’s name, and always feel creepy asking. It’s not even particularly important, except that something in my brain cannot help but title everything around me. So I’m going to guess that this woman’s name is.. Doris.

SKETCHBOOK 07 - pages 12-13
Some sketches of Timothy Reynolds’s low-poly vehicles, plus studies for my George Washington portrait for Telegraph Gallery’s Face Time show, the Diamond restaurant here in Charlotte, a few cribs from Cartoon Modern, and some peeps in the library. Clicking through will make this spread approximately life-sized (at 72dpi).
